Special thank you to George for the talk on mineral prep and cleaning. And thanks to the club members bringing in a lot of fossils and minerals to look at and debate about. Keep it up and bring samples to the meetings, very much appreciated.

Comment on Sept. 29th. 2013, Special Social Event, “Swap and Talk” by Robert Montgomery http://kawartharockandfossilclub.com/?p=618#comment-707 Wed, 02 Oct 2013 10:59:37 +0000 http://kawartharockandfossilclub.com/?p=618#comment-707 hi Everyone
I would like to thank all of the members and participants that assisted in helping to make the first Swap & Talk held at Norwood, such a success, special thanks to Mark Stanely for his guidance in making this an event to be proud of.

We are very thankful to the members that normally come out, without you we would not have had such a great showing of minerals and for the knowledge & advise you gratefully offered, what was most surprised and appetitive was the response from members that were first time participant in displaying there collections, with your help this has presented the possibility for greater participation from the members that have in the past been reluctant to get involved.

For myself, as a novice hobbyist i was quite surprised at the interest that my collection attracted. Worried that all i was bring to this event was not much more than garden rocks.
I was shocked to have Wendy Melanson, curator for the Bancroft Mineral Museum request one of my specimens for the museum exhibit.
I was also able to give samples to a group from the University of Michigan and a representative of the Toronto Science Centre as well as a local school donation Bob Becket is working on.
Who would know massive pyrite from the Marmora Mine would have created such interest.

Having the opportunity to speak to more people than i would normally, was what i was hoping for, although i ran out of time quickly, for me it turned out to be a very good day.

I can’t thank you enough for your efforts and hope that we will be able to call upon your participation next year as we feel it is not unreasonable to expect to hit a target of 40 tables.

Thank you
Robert

Comment on Collecting Report, Schickler fluorite occurrence, July 6th. 2013 by Ulli http://kawartharockandfossilclub.com/?p=556#comment-155 Sun, 14 Jul 2013 23:31:12 +0000 http://kawartharockandfossilclub.com/?p=556#comment-155 Nice report Robert. I had a good time .Note, the trail leading to the Schickler is rugged and at the moment not well marked .As well the parking spot needs a bit work at the entrance.
Reminder, the Kingston Club has a field trip to the Schickler on the 21th of July.
Our Club Members can join if they wish to go.
